Voorne is flooded
At the end of 1943, the fear of an Allied landing on the Western European coast increased further and further. In early 1944, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel ordered to flood areas along the Dutch coast. It was hoped that this would mainly prevent airborne landings (by paratroopers).
Voorne was also hit hard. The whole of Nieuw-Helvoet was flooded.
If you had to leave as a resident, you received a short note with the eviction order.
