Anti-aircraft guns in the fortress
Anti-aircraft guns were set up at four places in the fortress. This so-called FLAK (Flugzeug Abwehr Kanone) had the task of protecting the port facilities and the mouth of the Haringvliet. In the course of the war, Hellevoetluis was increasingly attacked by Allied planes and mines were also dropped in the Haringvliet. The artillery set up was rapid-fire artillery against low-flying aircraft.
