Bat excursion April 24

Bats are magnificent mammals, on the coastal battery of Hellevoetsluis the caponier has been set up for bats to hibernate. ​However, no bats have been found hibernating in the caponier in recent winters. This status means that we cannot enter this object during the winter period. Bats could wake up prematurely due to warming.

On Thursday evening of April 24th we organize a bat excursion led by Jan Alewijn Dijkhuizen, the evening starts at 20:00
Jan Alewijn is a real bat expert who knows a lot about these animals.

Before the excursion there is first an introduction about these special animals, then we go outside at dusk to look for bats in the fortress of Hellevoetsluis, there should be enough to see and if we don't see them we will certainly hear them by using bat detectors.
 

In addition to the bats, guides from our foundation will be present to answer any questions about military heritage.

The excursion starts at 8:00 PM and ends at approximately 10:00 PM.
The departure point is from our space in Kazerne Haerlem.

The costs are €5.00 per person.
Children under 12 pay half, as do donors.
