Cannon 24cm Iron - Barrel storage
It had been known for years. There is a cannon barrel on the beach at Nieuw Helvoet. Locally known as "de Punt". After the beach club of the den Ouden family was gone, it turned out to be possible to salvage the barrel.
Now known is a big word. There were Hellevoeters who knew, but this fact was by no means known to everyone, but it has been remembered by tradition. The site where the course was located was owned by Natuurmonumenten. So permission had to be requested first.
On 20 July 2007, Arie van den Ban made this salvage possible with his company Van den Ban Group. The barrel was loaded with a truck crane and brought to Hellevoetsluis.
For a moment it was exciting whether the car crane could go up and down the bend at the beach. It just fitted.
Miraculously, the screw wrench, the valve, was also still present at the barrel.
In Hellevoetsluis the barrel was laid down on the weapon yard where several front loaders were already moored. This weapon place is located directly in front of the Hellevoetsluis City Museum.
