Guided tour: Coastal Battery:
This tour covers the period up to and including the neutrality period of the First World War.
We start with an introduction to why Hellevoetsluis has a fortress. Then we take you over the former coastal battery on the front I-II. We visit various locations where an expert guide tells you about the objects that can be seen there. We pass the various artillery beds where, among other things, the 24 cm Yser artillery has stood.
We take a closer look at the large cannon that was placed back here in June 2013. Due to a subsidy from Europe, it is possible to include an authentic loop in a complete reconstruction.
We look at the niches for spokesman operators, the group stations, the various gun beds.
The Powder and Projectile Magazine should of course not be missed. Unfortunately, we can't look inside there. However, we will take a look inside the caponniere. An obejct that is completely hidden underground with its torpedo station and cannon casemates. Here we have displayed several larger finds from the restoration.
The tour of the coastal battery starts at 13:00 and lasts an hour and a half, the length of this tour is approximately 1 km.
In addition to these locations, there is much more to see, but more than can be seen in an hour and a half. For those who have not had enough after this tour, we can also take a look at the only German artillery bunker in Hellevoetsluis. Of course, we don't skip the 360-degree bed that goes with it.
