A different view of the Eighty Years' War
Battle of Nieuwpoort 1600. OK, but what happened at Nieuwpoort? And at the Siege of Leiden and Alkmaar and Haarlem? How was the Eighty Years' War actually fought? What did a soldier earn, how many women were there in the army, what weapons did they have, how was they executed, how did they get food, how did the soldier people behave, who was in charge in the army (Orange? The States General?), which stratagems were applied. In short: how did the Eighty Years' War last so long? What's worse: we have forgotten Nieuwpoort and we have forgotten Ostend! Never before has this decisive piece of national history been described so thoroughly and directly from the battlefield.
